Mumu is not simply a garment, it is a lifestyle. Spontaneous. Fun. Easy going. Unique. Versatile. Imaginative. Well-traveled. Make-believe. Gold, silver, and bronze worn together. Feathers and jewels. Explorers and inventors. It all encompasses the mumu, and a way of life.

Mumu: (mōō’mōō’) noun.

When worn with a slip, it is a short dress; when worn with pants, it is a long top; when worn with a bikini, it is a tunic; when worn with a belt, it is…well…belted; and when worn to bed, it is a nightie. It is your favorite piece in your closet and the only thing you really ever need.

London was the start of our amazing one-month journey throughout Europe! We decided to rent a car and try to see as many cities in the country as possible, starting with London, of course! The weather was a bit rainy, but we didn’t let it stop us from getting some amazing shots in front of the most famous landmarks! Seeing Big Ben was one of my all-time favorite moments of this trip, as I have been dreaming of seeing it since I was a little girl. I wore an amazing blue dress from Vici to dance around the rain in and enjoy the moment as much as possible. Of course, we also had to get the cool telephone booth shots. I happened to have the perfect printed red dress from Gypsy 05 to match perfectly! After we walked around the streets for a while, we stumbled upon Westminster Palace where there were guards marching and beautiful horses. I wore a romper dress from Stevie Sister as we walked around the park and enjoyed the foliage!

Over the next few days, we drove west towards Bristol, England. We visited cities nearby and managed to pull off the side of the road to take advantage of the amazing fields that are EVERYWHERE! I was lucky enough to run through the greenest field on the way to Bristol with epic clouds above, wearing a floral dress from Morning Lavender. It flowed in the wind, making me feel like a flower gypsy.

Jamie Kidd fashion & travel blogging through Europe with photographer Champagne Victoria and videographer Dustin Mulstay of Electric Safari.

Bristol and Bath are really quaint little towns with beautiful buildings and alleyways that are so picturesque, it’s impossible to choose one to shoot in! We started off the day walking through the colorful town of Bristol, taking advantage of the houses that never seemed to repeat the same color! I wore the softest tie-dye dress from Gypsy 05 that was perfect for the start of our day. We made our way over to Bath, a beautiful city filled with Roman architecture and way too many tourists! I wore a crop top by Kivari The Label and a maxi skirt from Fearless & Flawed that flowed in the wind perfectly.

The next day, we had one mission: find a castle!! We did so much research and decided to cross the border over to Wales. The castle we decided to visit was definitely not a disappointment, Chepstow Castle, located right over the Wye River. There were three different tiers to this property, along with a dragon hunt you can do! I wore one of my favorite dresses from Blackwater that was short in the front, but flowed as I walked with a little train.

jamie-kidd_instagram_L24A0385_web

We circled back to London for our last few days, did all the rest of the “must do” tourist spots, and ended at Buckingham Palace. I wore a jumpsuit from Zara as well as Jay.Nicole Jewelry. We tossed a coin in the fountain and enjoyed the last of the city before heading out in the morning to Germany!

What Should You Know Before Getting Hair Extensions?

$

hair-extensions-tutorial_the-hair-shop_Cover

It’s not only about accessorizing your hair, but also about accessorizing with your hair.  Like having the perfect makeup or the right pair of shoes to complete an outfit, your hair can speak volumes about your style, mood, or even simply you. Hair extensions open up a world of options beyond the cut, color, and style you might have imagined.  If you’ve never explored extensions before, here are some of the basics you need to know to find your perfect set.

Match Your Method.

First, you need to decide if you want a semi-permanent attachment or a commitment-free method.  The Hair Shop has a wide variety of options so you can rest assured that you’ll find your perfect match—from method, color, length or style. For a semi-permanent solution, you can consult with your local hairdresser about our 7 hair extension methods to find the right one for you. Skinweft Tape-ins, I-Tip, Keratip®, and Onestep® Weft are just a few options that can be tailored to your needs and lifestyle.

hair_extensions_ITip B and A_priscilla Figure 1: Transformation using our I-Tip method. Stylist: Priscilla Valles, Celebrity Extension Specialist.

If you’re just starting out, clip-in extensions are the easiest way to feel the magic of hair extensions without the full commitment.

Start off by exploring our 7-PC Clip-ins, the classic complete set of extensions for a full transformation. Set includes:

  • 1 large weft piece with 4 clips pre-attached
  • 1 medium weft piece with 3 clips pre-attached
  • 5 small weft pieces with 2 clips pre-attached

The Hair Shop 7-PC Clip-in set

Figure 2: The Hair Shop 7-PC Clip-in set, 16″ Color T8/18/60

Match Your Texture.

Extensions are not a ‘one size fits all’ product. You can find anything from thick to fine hair types and everything in between for whichever method you choose.

If your hair is on the fine side, explore our Skinny Line.  These are our classic clip-ins with a slimmer weft for a seamless and lightweight feel.

The Hair Shop Skinny Clip-in, 3-Clip piece.

Figure 3: The Hair Shop Skinny Clip-in, 3-Clip piece. Each piece sold separately for easy customization.

Match Your Color.

This is probably the most exciting part of your adventure with hair extensions–  to determine how daring you’re feeling with color.

Here’s what you need to consider before and during color matching:

  1. Dye your hair beforehand. You don’t want to guess what tone your color will turn out before your stylist dyes it. If you’ve determined rock silver hair, come into your hair extension shopping experience prepared to match that same silver color once you’ve achieved it. You want to match to your current hair.
  2. If you’re in between tones, go with the lighter shade. If you’re debating between very similar colors that don’t exactly match with yours, a slightly lighter shade typically gives off a naturally highlighted color overall (especially with individual extensions).
  3. Don’t dye extensions by yourself. Though all of our extensions are human hair and professional hairdressers have successfully achieved that unique color they desire, don’t risk doing this yourself; consult with a professional. Hair extensions are a natural product. Strands (like our own hair) can become more damaged than others and thus may affect the full set. We highly encourage dying your roots or full head first without extensions applied, if needed.

And don’t be discouraged by the no-dye rules. You can still find your unique hue within our 65 color options. The beauty of clip-ins is that you can always match your “in-between” color jobs and easily switch when you’re ready.

If you’re still on the fence about hair extensions, consult with a professional. Many hairdressers specialize in hair extensions as well as other services and may offer consultations before you decide to go hair shopping.

Your stylist can help you determine what length fits best, how much hair you’ll need, and if you need several methods applied. If you’re still not sure, you’ll find trained hair extension professionals at any of our store locations to help you from A to Z. Find The Hair Shop near you by going to our website.

Happy Hair Days,

The Hair Shop Team

A day of Pampering, Facials and Makeovers in NYC for the Jetset Girlboss

I thoroughly enjoyed my relaxing and invigorating visit at Smith & Brit. As I walked into their shop, I was greeted by the wafting aroma of many earthy and soothing scents that already began to calm me after my brisk Manhattan walk. Kristyn led me to the back room, where I slipped into a comfy robe that had me feeling oh-so-pampered. As she began to examine my skin, and then massage my face and neck, explaining each process in detail, I was transported into a world of bliss and satisfaction.

MITH smith & brit nyc wellness makeover spa

For my jetsetter lifestyle, Kristyn customized a 60-min facial, a top choice for a glow for those on-the-go. She utilized a 3-step cleanse that started with an oil and clay mask for deep purification, followed by a light glycolic and lactic acid mask to rid my face of dead, lack luster skin cells, revealing fresh healthy cells underneath. She then followed this with light extractions to purge anything old from my pores. Next, a hydrating mask was massaged into my skin, followed by precious oil and marble moons, which were strategically massaged across my face to rid it of any stagnant lymphatic fluid (great for travelers, or after late nights out). Kristyn explained that this process reduces puffiness and inflammation while restoring definition to facial contours. Lastly, I was treated with a mega dose of vitamins A, C, & E to heal, protect and regenerate my skin. I’m quite sure my skin cells were rejoicing, because my complexion felt flawless afterwards!

Kristyn was also able to address a couple issues I had when walking into the salon. I explained to her that my apartment had flooded, leaving me with a slightly dry, tingly cough in my lungs for 3 days. So, she gifted me a bag of Binchotan charcoal sticks that I could boil in water to absorb any toxins in my home. I also let Kristyn know I was concerned with the tiny bumpy pores that had developed under my eyes after using a heavy concealer from trying to hide those dark circles. Kristyn explained that these little bumps were called milia, and she gave me a generous sample of Clark’s Botanicals Anti-Puff Eye Cream to help work the milia out over time. Kristyn was so generous to also gift me a large sample of Clark’s Botanicals soothing marine cream, which helps moisturize the face and gives anti-aging benefits for an overall “lift” to the skin. My goodie bag left me feeling very pampered and cared for. What a treat!

MITH_smith-brit-nyc_wellness_makeover_spa_IMG_7604

With now dazzling skin, I then plopped into their beauty bar chair, and Claire finished my look with a light makeover using Rouge Bunny Rouge makeup. She polished off my look with slightly blushed cheeks, light eye liner, and an iridescent pink gloss, all of which enhanced the natural glow that now radiated through my skin. I thanked the ladies and went on my way with a little pep in my step. When I showed up to my apartment, my roomie remarked, “Wow, you look amazing! You should go on a date tonight just to show off your look. You’re glowing!” Well, that was confirmation that Smith & Brit totally transformed my slightly tired and worn look into a radiant and healthy glow in only an hour! I would highly recommend a visit to their boutique and spa to get pampered after a busy week, when you need a little pick-me-up. You are sure to be greeted by warm company, and you will leave feeling “uplifted,” both mind, body and soul.

This restaurant is one of my favorites to post on Instagram. I love the white brick walls, greenery, and openness. Gastroteca serves an amazing brunch! They even screen old movies on their walls at night, which is pretty darn cool!

We’re “Noors Truly” Now! Recap of Noon by Noor for NYFW

Noon by Noor tantalized the runway with feminine and flowing silhouettes from their Spring ’17 collection. This line was highlighted by intricate pieces, and lightweight fabrics. The models wore subtle makeup and straight hair draping their faces, keeping all the attention on the incredible pieces. Antique tulle skirts and sequined sets made the pale, subdued tones pop. Inspired by ranunculus flowers from Bahrain, their structured linen pieces were offset by soft and dreamy gowns. Noor dazzled with blush tones paired effortlessly with bold textures. Sheer layered dresses complimented their more structured pantsuits, and balanced the collection, while giving it an appeal to any feminine woman’s fashion sense. Most striking was a black, sheer, sleeveless gown adorned in sequins. This style swept the runway with delicate sophistication. In the words of their design team, one is able to imagine the quintessential Noon by Noor look: “Iridescent sequins and hexagons lightly shimmer against a white slip dress, while chiffon flowers delicately sit across a black corset jumpsuit epitomizing flirtatious femininity.” This breathtaking collection captured a stunning whimsical essence and left us wanting more.
